I Wish I was a Sunflower

Stevie Laxer

Sometimes, I wish I was a sunflower.

You may think it's stupid, but I'll tell you why.

I want to be tall, tall enough to reach the sky.

I wouldn't be in such a hurry to grow up.

I could stay in the sun all day and forget all my

worries.

Sunflowers grow on their own terms.

They're beautiful and vibrant.

I'd be free from the tyrant

That is life and society and the social pressures of becoming successful.

I could stretch to the sky and say hello to the earth around my roots.

Wouldn't that be nice?

Sometimes, I wish I was a sunflower.

You may think it's stupid, but to me...

I think it's peace.
